53 people were killed in a building collapse in Changsha, China

(Reuters) – 53 people died when an apartment building collapsed in the Chinese city of Changsha last week after days of rescue efforts, the official CCTV channel reported on Friday.

Rescuers pulled 10 survivors from the rubble of the eight-storey “self-built” house in Hunan Province that collapsed on April 29, according to closed-circuit television.

The report stated that the cause of the collapse is under investigation by the local authorities and several people have been arrested.
