Defamation trial between Mr. Depp and Mrs. Heard It started on April 11th in Fairfax, Virginia Following the lawsuit that Depp brought against his ex-wife in March 2019. Depp argues that she denigrates him in a December 2018 op-ed published in Washington Post Titled “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture. That must change.”
Among the March 2015 incident in Australia, Ms Heard said Depp had lost “a ton of weight, so I knew something was off”.
She said, “The first night…when he pushed me, I slid across the floors…it was easy for him to throw me like that.”
She alleged that Mr. Deeb grabbed her neck and hit her head against the wall. Mrs. Heard said she slept behind a “fortified” door and had taken sleeping pills to fall asleep. When she woke up, she said Mr. Depp was “still awake”.
Ms Heard said they had become embroiled in an argument over medicines, including MDMA. “He took a handful of pills…either eight or 10 pills… of MDMA,” she said.
She added that Mr. Depp accused her of not liking his sister and that he was upset with the actors she worked with, including Eddie Redmayne in Danish girl.
By March 2015, Ms Heard said she had heard Mr. Depp use the phrase “the only way out of this is death”, in reference to their relationship, about 25 times.
In a later fight, Mrs. Heard said Depp hit her “hard” against walls, calling her a “bitch, slut, fat ass”.
She added that he would drink in front of her “as a sign of strength”. She claimed that Mr. Deeb said others had warned him about her and that “nobody” liked her.
She said she pushed him away from her, and that he replied “Would you like to go, little girl?” He proceeded to push her to a game table and kept “hitting” her face.
Mrs. Heard testified that Mr. Depp “mocked her” for taking a bottle of him. She said she eventually caught her and “smashed her to the ground”, which “really blew him” and that he “hit her with the back of the hand” and threw another bottle at her.
She added that he later had a “broken bottle” on her face, saying he would “dig it up”.
Mrs. Heard said she did not remember whether she had thrown anything in Mr. Depp’s direction, but she did not believe she had.
“He was throwing these bottles, one at a time, and I could feel the glass breaking behind me,” she said, adding that he tore his nightgown off.
“He yells at me that he hates me and that I ruined his life,” said Mrs. Heard. “I hate you, you ruined my annoying life,” he was quoted as saying.
Ms Heard said Mr. Depp’s eyes had turned “black” and that she “couldn’t see him anymore”.
“I’ve never felt afraid in my whole life,” she added. Ms Heard said Mr. Depp was over her and that she tried to tell him that it “really hurts me”.
“I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t reach, couldn’t get up…I don’t know what happened next,” Ms. Heard said, claiming that he continued to sexually assault her.
“I could feel this pressure on the pubic bone,” she added, saying it “looked as if ‘Mr. Depp’ was punching her,” adding that there were “broken bottles, broken glass” throughout the room.
“I couldn’t feel the pain, I couldn’t feel the pain,” she added, saying she remembers thinking “Please God, I hope it doesn’t break.”
“I don’t know how that ended,” Ms Heard said, adding that she remembered being in the bathroom “vomiting” and that she “lost control of my bladder”.
“There was blood on the floor,” she said, adding that she took sleeping pills to fall asleep that night.
When she woke up the next morning, she said, “It became apparent that he was still awake, not sleeping.”
Ms Heard said she saw “dry blood” on the walls. “I saw what looked like my name,” she added.
“By the time I went down the stairs, blood was stained with dark blue paint,” she testified, adding that one of the paintings in the house “has a huge penis.”
“He just looked, he wasn’t there anymore, it wasn’t Johnny,” she said of Mr. Depp in relation to the March 2015 incident.
Mrs. Heard said Mr. Depp’s hand was wrapped in a “bandana rag”.
According to Heard, Mr. Depp said, “Look what you made me do, I did this for you.” She said she “quickly realized” he was using his finger as a paintbrush “even though there were a lot of paintbrushes.”
“I found out he lost a finger, he kind of raised it,” she added.
“What did you do? When?” She said she asked him. “I realized in my head that probably many hours would have passed since this happened.”
Mr. Depp appeared to chuckle in the courtroom on Thursday when Ms Heard said that after security personnel arrived, he “pulled his penis out of his pants, trying to pee outside, saying he had more messages for me”.
She added that security personnel “brought” Mr. Deeb back home “like a wild animal… peeing or trying to pee.”
Ms Heard said Mr. Depp said he was “leaving more messages” for her. “It makes no sense,” she added.
The letters have already been submitted to the court and “Reminders” that Mr. Depp scrawled in blood and paint after cutting off his finger in a fight during which he claimed Mrs. Heard threw two bottles of vodka at him.
When Mr. Depp testified about the incident earlier in the trial, he told the court: “It just got really crazy.”
“I was a mess, I was a wreck, I was shivering,” said Mr. Depp, as he tried to avoid Mrs. Heard.
He recalled pouring himself two or three “stiff vodka shots,” adding that it was “the first taste of alcohol I’ve had in a long time.”
The actor said Ms. Heard yelled “Oh, you’re drinking again” when she found him.
“She went towards me, took a bottle of vodka and then stood back and threw it at me,” he said. “It just went over my head and crashed behind me.”
Mr. Depp testified that he grabbed another, larger bottle of vodka and fired himself another shot while Heard was “slinging insults left, right and center”.
“I grabbed this bottle and threw it at me,” Mr. Depp said, showing the jury how he was sitting at the time. He said his fingers were on the edge of the bar and that a large bottle of vodka “touched and smashed all over the place”.
“I didn’t feel any pain at first,” he said. “It felt hot as if something was dripping from my hand.”
“I was looking straight at my bones sticking out,” he added. “Blood was just spilling.”
“I don’t know what it’s like to have a nervous breakdown,” he said, “but maybe this is the closest it’s ever been.” “Nothing makes sense and I knew in my mind and heart that this was not life.”
“No one should go through this,” he added.
Being in the midst of what looks like a nervous breakdown, Mr. Depp said he started “writing with my blood on the walls”.
“Little reminders from our past that were basically lies you told me and lies I had caught,” he said, adding that he hid in the bathroom and texted his doctor to come over.
Mr. Depp showed the injured finger in court, and said that the bones were “shattered” and that it looked like “Vesuvius”, referring to the Italian volcano.
Mr. Depp said he did not remember what Mrs. Heard had said after seeing his injury.
“It was like white noise, just someone screaming,” he said. “It was just a high-pitched incessant attack of insults, it was just mixed words for me with very high frequency and I was in shock.”
In her 2018 editorial, Ms. Heard wrote that “Like many women, I was harassed and sexually assaulted when I was college age. But I kept quiet – I wasn’t expecting complaints to get justice. I didn’t see myself as a victim.”
“Two years ago, I became a public figure of domestic violence, and felt the full force of our culture’s anger toward women who speak out,” she added at the time.
While Mr. Depp’s name is not mentioned in the article, his legal team argues that it contains “a clear implied indication that Depp is a domestic abuser”, which they say is “categorically and clearly false”. Depp is seeking damages of “not less than $50 million”.
Heard has filed a $100 million counterclaim against Depp for inconvenience and immunity from his allegations.
