The Mona Lisa is attacked by a cookie-throwing environmental warrior in a bizarre ploy that fortunately fails to harm her famous smile.

Videos posted on social media appear to show a young man in a wig and lipstick arriving at the Louvre Museum in Paris in a wheelchair on Sunday – then jumping and attacking Leonardo da Vinci’s 16th-century masterpiece.

According to Agence France-Presse, the man, whose identity was not immediately revealed, tried to “smash the bulletproof glass”.

He then “proceeds to smear the cake on the glass and throw flowers everywhere, before security confronts him,” tweeted the witness under the name Lukeee.
