“Music has always been at the heart of our business at Apple, delivering it to hundreds of millions of users in the way the iPod has impacted more than just the music industry—it’s also redefined how we discover, listen, and share music,” said Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of global marketing at Apple. Apple, in a statement.
“Today, the spirit of the iPod lives on,” Joswiak added, noting how the music experience initiated by the iPod is integrated across “all of our products.”
That same year, Apple unveiled the iPhone, which was in many ways the spiritual heir to the iPod Touch. The smartphone, and other Apple devices that followed, finally made the iPod seem like a relic, long before it was officially discontinued.
