Trevisan smiles last fights Fernandez
Earlier on center court, Trevisan became the first Italian woman to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals since Sarah Errani in 2013 thanks to her impressive 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3 victory over 17th seed Leila. Fernandez on Tuesday.
The world number 59 expanded her winning streak to 10 matches, having lifted the trophy in Rabat in preparation for Roland Garros.
In what was the first women’s Grand Slam quarterfinals left since Wimbledon 2014, Trevisan was broken while serving for the win as 19-year-old Fernandes saved match point to keep her chances alive and tied 5-5.
The Canadian sealed the second-set tiebreaker to force victory but the 28-year-old regrouped to finish off a three-set victory and reach her first major semi-final.
