Model Widehover’s daughter has been found dead at her home in Houston at the age of 31.
Her family said the Instagram influencer, who was best known for telling her followers openly about her mental health struggles, had committed suicide.
“Unfortunately, my niece committed suicide after a long battle with mental health issues,” the Widehover family was quoted as saying TMZ Thursday.
“She was so open with her followers about her suffering that she even wanted to help followers who also suffered,” her family said.
Police reportedly responded to a welfare check, and discovered the young model sometime last month. Her family is said to have been concerned after she deleted nearly all of her photos and videos on social media, a move that sparked widespread speculation among fans in late May that she may have died.
The Widehover family says they now plan to create a non-profit organization in her honor to spread awareness about mental health.
Although she has never hesitated to tell her 4.2 million Instagram followers about her struggles, her loved ones have made it clear that they want her to be remembered for even more.
“My niece was more than her struggle. She was beautiful, kind, sensitive, playful, creative, talented, generous, compassionate, thoughtful and challenging,” the family said in their statement, adding that she was now “free to be herself.”
