Six people were injured when a small plane crashed into a bridge in Florida, authorities said

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said two people were taken to nearby trauma centers and three others were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The injuries to the sixth person were not immediately revealed.

The FAA said in a statement that a single-engine Cessna aircraft taking off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport lost power and crashed into a vehicle on the bridge as it was landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration said three people were on board.

A video taken by Alex Huberman, a Miami resident, from the balcony of a nearby hotel, showed the wrecked small plane blazing with black smoke billowing from it.

The video shows that several feet from the plane was a chestnut-coloured SUV, which appears to have sustained severe damage, indicating that it may have been the vehicle that the plane hit as it attempted to land.

Huberman said he saw at least two people getting off the plane, adding that emergency personnel put several people on stretchers.

Chad Raney also filmed a video of the accident and told CNN he had a boat near the bridge.

Chad Raney, who filmed another video of the accident, told CNN that he had a boat at anchor next to the bridge and heard an explosion.

He went up to see what had happened and recorded the effects of the crash. His footage showed plumes of dark smoke billowing above the plane.

after the collapse, Miami-Dade Police said on Twitter Collins Avenue between 96th and 163rd Streets is closed in both directions, warning drivers to “expect heavy traffic delays and look for alternative routes.”
