The latest season of the fantasy horror series debuted this weekend to set records, becoming the first-ever appearance on Netflix of an English language TV show.
Netflix said “Stranger Things 4 – Volume 1” has clocked 286.7 million watch hours. That surpassed the second season of “Bridgerton” which achieved 193 million watch hours in March.
The “Stranger Things” series, which follows a group of kids and adults battling the forces of a parallel universe, is by far the biggest Netflix franchise. Fans were clamoring for more after the show was on hiatus for nearly three years.
Since its debut in 2016, “Stranger Things” has helped take Netflix into what it is today. It’s a cultural sensation that has extended to video games, tourist attractions, fast food items, and merchandising.
The show’s producers and producers, brothers Matt and Ross Dover, said “Stranger Things 4” is “the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding.”
