Max Hopka, Lincoln Police Chief, told CNN early Monday that at least one of the 19 injured is in critical condition, while the others who were taken to hospitals have non-life-threatening injuries.
At about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, a car was heading west near 52nd and O Streets, Hopka said. When another vehicle turned left to head east, he said, there was a T-shape crash that hit pedestrians along the street.
During the Memorial Day holiday, Hopka said, the city sees a lot of action with many “pedestrians and pedestrians on the street.”
“We had people sitting on the sidewalk as well when the accident happened,” he said.
Hopka said two women in one car were killed, while the driver of the other car was receiving treatment in hospital. He said it was not clear at this time which passengers were in which car.
